Lenovo Ranked #1 in TBR Customer Notebook Satisfaction Study

Posted on: Thursday, 5 June 2008, 09:00 CDT

Lenovo today announced it has been recognized as the #1 PC manufacturer in Technology Business Research's (TBR) "1Q2008 Notebook IT Buying Behavior and Customer Satisfaction Study." The results, garnered from more than 600 medium and large business customers in the U.S. and Canada, show Lenovo as the overall leading notebook PC-maker.

TBR recognized Lenovo for its improvement in services and support. In 1Q2008, Lenovo led its rivals in terms of phone support, parts availability and repair time and made significant improvements in delivery time.

"Our goal is to deliver the world's best engineered PCs and a big part of that comes from providing excellent customer service and support. From having an ample supply of parts to efficient and effective phone support, we are focused on fixing any customer PC issues right the first time," said Chris Askew, senior vice president, Lenovo Worldwide Services. "We've made considerable progress in these areas and will continue to go beyond customer expectations as we work to establish the standard in world-class services."

Lenovo also continued its leadership in product design of its ThinkPad notebooks, a consistent strength of the company's for six of the past eight TBR survey reporting periods. Customers told TBR that hardware quality/reliability, product design and support and services were top reasons for choosing Lenovo as their PC vendor.

"Lenovo's value proposition is tied to its reputation for innovative design that focuses on durable construction," said Chris Foster, Director of Technology Business Review's Computer and Software Quarterly Divisions, TBR. "TBR coins Lenovo's design as 'thoughtful engineering' meaning that extra trouble and sometimes extra expense is taken to make the product work better and endure longer."

Several recent notebooks, notably the ThinkPad X300 notebook highlight Lenovo's strong emphasis on product design that sets the standard in the industry for innovation. Introduced in February, the ThinkPad X300 notebook is the thinnest and lightest full-function notebook in its class.(1) The ultra-thin, ultraportable notebook measures less than three-fourths of an inch at its thinnest point, or approximately the height of a U.S. quarter coin, and has a starting weight as low as 2.9 pounds.(2) It integrates leading technologies such as solid-state drive storage, a LED backlit display, a super light top cover roll cage for extra durability, ultralong battery life and enhanced wireless connectivity.

Additionally, Lenovo ThinkPad notebooks come equipped with ThinkVantage technologies, unique hardware-software technologies that help customers with everything from accessing network connections to data rescue and recovery. The combination of all these Lenovo technologies help customers reduce the total cost of PC ownership and maximize their investment.

Lenovo Asset Recovery Service Helps Businesses Go Green, Turning Computer Trash into Cash
Tuesday June 17, 8:39 am ET
Eco-Solution Gives Customers Easy Way to Refurbish, Reuse and Recycle Computers

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Lenovo today introduced Lenovo Asset Recovery Services (ARS), a new set of services to help business customers in the U.S. and Canada manage their end-of-life technology equipment by providing computer take-back, data destruction, refurbishment and recycling. Lenovo also offers additional services including inventory, value assessment, on-site deinstallation and data encryption. Lenovo can facilitate donation of the old computers or can help customers receive cash back for them. After three years, typically, a customer can receive 10 to 15 percent of the value back of the original purchase price of the computer.1

With this eco-solution, customers can fulfill green information technology commitments knowing their equipment is disposed of in a secure and environmentally-responsible way. The computers are discarded with data destruction performed according to the U.S. Department of Defense standards. According to Gartner, managing data security and privacy risks followed by environmental risks are top customer concerns when it comes to computer disposal.2 And of customers surveyed, they cited convenience and ease of use as a top reason for picking an external disposal provider. The new service gives customers an end-to-end solution from Lenovo from the point of computer purchase to take-back and disposal. Lenovo’s expertise in managing the end-of-life computers can help customers eliminate the time and expense of managing the disposal themselves.

As the number of computers increases in the U.S. and older ones are retired, recycling programs are helping give new life to end-of-life products. Lenovo first prioritizes refurbishment and reuse and then focuses on recycling. In 2007, Lenovo managed or financed the proper disposal of more than 38 million pounds, or the weight of more than 7.6 million bricks, of Lenovo owned or customer returned computer equipment. More than 93 percent of that was reused as products or recycled as materials.

Many of the recovered computer materials are recycled into new products, such as automobiles, park benches, concrete filler and even into some Lenovo products. Lenovo expects adding the ARS to its existing take back programs will help grow customer returns by more than 30 percent in 2008. Lenovo also offers recycling options to individual consumers in the U.S. and other countries around the world.

As part of Lenovo’s Environmentally Conscious Products Program, the company considers the environment when designing its products by making them close to 100 percent recyclable, using recycled materials where possible and making them more energy-efficient.

“The Lenovo Asset Recovery Services is one more step in our commitment to being good stewards of our environment,” said Fran O’Sullivan, senior vice president, product group, Lenovo. “We’re focused on greening the entire lifecycle of our computers, from increasing the lifespan and designing for upgradeability to improving energy efficiency. We’ve made considerable progress with our EPEAT Gold-rated notebooks, desktops and monitors thus far and are striving to expand our portfolio of Gold-rated products.”

Lenovo has introduced several products that meet the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool’s (EPEAT) Gold rating. They include the ThinkCentre A61e and M57/M57p eco desktops, the ThinkPad X300 notebook and more than nine ThinkVision monitors including the ThinkVision L193p, the first EPEAT Gold-rated monitor in the industry.

    Pricing and Availability3

Pricing for the standard Asset Recovery Service package varies with customer requirements. The service will be available beginning June 30 to businesses with limited support for their multi-national operations. ARS will be sold through Lenovo sales representatives.

Lenovo buys back 3 mln more shares for 16.34 mln HKD

    Wednesday, June 18, 2008

China's leading PC producer Lenovo Group Tuesday spent 16.34 million HK dollars to buy back an additional three million shares at a price of 5.4-5.5 HK dollars/share on the Hong Kong Exchange.
The fresh buyback brought the total shares bought back by the company up to 123 million.

Earlier, board chairman Yang Yuanqing said that the successful acquisition of IBM's PC business has given huge impetus to Lenovo, which, however, is underestimated by investors.

Yang added that the company would continue to buy back its own shares as long as the market price is under the upper limit of its expectation.

Lenovo CFO also said, with two billion U.S. dollars on hand, the company could buy back 800 million shares at most and could call back ten percent of total shares, signaling there is still large room for further buyback.

Lenovo's share price in Hong Kong closed up 1.28 percent to 5.52 HK dollars Wednesday.

Lenovo buys back 3 mln shares with 15.88 mln HKD

China's leading PC producer Lenovo Group Thursday spent 15.88 million HK dollars in buying back three million shares at the price of 5.2-5.44 HK dollars/share on the Hong Kong Exchange.
The fresh buyback brought the total shares bought back by the company up to 110 million, or 1.2 percent of the total.

Board chairman Yang Yuanqing earlier noted that the company would continue to buy back its own shares as long as the company is undervalued by market and the move is in line with the interest of shareholders.

Lenovo CFO also said the company could buy back 800 million shares at most and could draw back ten percent of total shares. It indicates that there is still large room for further buyback.

Hahaha.
