Sales for the quarter were $781.3 million, down from $870.4 million last year.
The results outpaced analysts’ estimates. Nineteen analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters First Call had predicted earnings of 69 cents a share. Seventeen analysts had predicted $704 million in revenue.
But the performance wasn’t enough to buoy investors. Around 2:15 p.m., the stock was trading at $26.76, down $4.65, or 14.8 percent, according to Yahoo Finance.
The drop was similar to a 16.4 percent decrease in share price on Oct. 28 following events including decreased earnings and revenue for primary competitor TomTom NV. For the quarter, TomTom reported a 15 percent drop in revenue and a 48 percent plunge in earnings.
Garmin’s automotive/mobile segment racked up $546 million in revenue for the quarter, down 13 percent from the comparable period.
